School of Kazakh Crafts in Turkistan

We teach the youth of Turkistan traditional Kazakh crafts — felt making and jewelry making — to preserve cultural heritage and provide new professional skills.

Who this project helps

Youth of Turkistan aged 16 to 30
College and university students interested in culture and crafts
Young entrepreneurs wishing to master craft professions
Local masters and artisans ready to share experience

Location: Turkistan, Kazakhstan

Why it matters

Problem

In Turkistan, a city with rich history and cultural significance, traditional Kazakh crafts — felt making and jewelry making — are gradually being lost. Young people are increasingly less interested in ancestral crafts, and masters who possess these techniques are aging and not passing on knowledge to the next generation. This leads to a break in cultural continuity and the loss of unique skills that could become the basis for small businesses and the region's tourist appeal.

What we offer

Solution

Creation of the educational initiative 'School of Kazakh Crafts' in Turkistan, which will conduct a series of practical workshops and courses on felt making and jewelry making for youth. The project will bring together experienced master mentors, provide necessary materials and tools, and organize exhibitions and fairs where participants can present their works. This will not only preserve cultural heritage but also create conditions for professional growth and entrepreneurial activity among young people.
